This is the first place Kelly took Fiona when she came to Stone Harbor. It’s an institution and it’s incredible!
If you are a birder, this is where you can see east coast colonial nesting seabirds! In September, the black skimmers should still be around! The point is also a great place to find shells, especially after a storm. Just park in the parking lot just past 122nd Street and second avenue, and walk onto the path and as far down the beach as you want to go! The nesting birds will be at the southernmost point, about a mile and a half down the beach.
This is a great place to learn about the nature around 7 Mile Island! They have turtles! You can see cool birds like egrets here!
This is the main “shopping street” in Stone Harbor! It’s fun to walk around ! Favorites include Fred’s Tavern, the Fudge Kitchen (free samples!), and Hoys 5 and 10 has a lot of cheap beach stuff and souvenirs. There are also shopping streets around 96th that include other stores like the Wayward Gardener. Springer's Ice Cream is not to be missed, so I’m mentioning it here again! It’s on 97th street.
Cape May is extremely cute with great shops and restaurants. It’s one of only two towns in the US where the whole town has historical designation, meaning you can’t bulldoze cool, old houses to make room for soulless, gray boxes. The houses are Victorian and colorful! Walk down Main Street or get a drink at Congress Hall (a cool, old hotel). There is also great birding at the Cape May Bird Observatory. You can walk up into the lighthouse if you’re feeling robust! There’s great antiquing! There’s a cool farm called Beach Plum Farm with food and chickens.
When in Rome?
Have you ever seen a whale? Want to see bottlenose dolphins? This was Kelly’s first job in marine science. She was an unpaid intern here in the summer of 2013, mere months before she laid eyes on her true white whale ;)
This is for our west coast people- behold WAWA. You may be asking yourself what is Wawa? More like, what isn’t Wawa? Hungry for a quick sandwich? Go to Wawa. Parched? Go to Wawa! Need a soft pretzel? Get yourself to Wawa immediately.
