Relax in the mineral rich hot springs of Terra Nostra gardens. Bring a darker bathing suit as the minerals in the water may stain lighter fabrics.
Stop here to sample local Azorean tea and pastries. There are 2 marked hikes through the tea fields with great views and the potential to see goats roaming the fields. The shorter hike will bring you to a waterfall. The longer hike brings you across and up the tea fields for a great view.
We recommend trying the Association cheese with bread to start as well as any of the Azorean steaks. This is a little bit hidden and you may feel you are in the wrong spot. The entrance is inside of the large convention style building.
This city offers many miles of quiet cobblestone streets weaving through a charm-filled old town. You will find plenty of shops and restaurants to explore.
This is the view you will see commonly used as the image for Sao Miguel. Check out the near by abandoned hotel and stop in the small town below. Best to visit on a clear day when visibility is high. Use the Boca de Inferno Viewpoint Route for a short (about 1.5 mile) walk to an amazing viewpoint.
This chapel is beautifully situated on a mountain overlooking Vila Franca do Campo. The drive consists of a few winding roads, so we recommend that you follow your GPS. The last steep section is really narrow so drive carefully. The sun sets on the south side of the island – allowing you to enjoy a breath-taking sunset from this very spot.
Natural thermal-water pool along the ocean, reachable via a climb over basalt rocks & a ladder. Ocean water meets volcanic run off. Go at low tide for the best experience. We recommend water shoes.
