Beautiful ruins of the 12th century monastery located along the banks of the Rivers Wharfe. We recommend a 2-mile loop walk, starting at Bolton Abbey, heading up to the Cavendish Pavilion, and returning along the opposite side of the river.
Quaint market town located near Bolton Abbey, also known as the filming location for Darrowby in the TV Series, All Creatures Great and Small. If you're parking at the National Park Visitor Centre, keep an eye out for Chuffers the cat, an extremely friendly local who often sits on a bench just outside town.
A lovely 5-mile circular, moderately difficult, walk in the Yorkshire Dales featuring waterfalls, a gorge and a limestone pavement as seen in Harry Potter. We're planning a group walk and picnic to Malham Cove on Thursday, 6th August. If you're around and keen to explore, we'd love for you to join us!
For our American family and friends—The Lake District, England's largest national park, is known for its spectacular glacial landscapes and countless picturesque villages. Ambleside, around a 1.5-hour drive from Stirk House, holds a special place in our hearts. It's where Chris went to university and was one of the first places we spent together when I first visited England in 2018. There are plenty of cafes, outdoor gear shops and beautiful walks around the surrounding area. If you plan to visit, just send us a quick message, we'd be happy to share more recommendations!
Located in North Yorkshire, about 1.5 hours from Stirk House, York is a city rich in history. First founded by the Romans, it later became an important Anglo-Saxon settlement and then a major Viking city. If you have a few extra days, we highly recommend spending at least one night here to fully explore its museums and historic landmarks.
