How We Met

May 2017

We met through mutual friends at our favorite Mexican restaurant in Lynchburg, Va. Our friends told Claire he was a Navy seal (not true), and so when she first went to talk to him, he totally blew her off and wouldn't talk to her, even though he still claims he was just shy and needed a beer before he could officially introduce himself! We met again a few weeks later in a summer class we were both taking, but neither of us could remember the other's name! Claire followed him out of class to talk to him, and he blew her off AGAIN! Later in the same week, a friend told Claire he had texted our mutual friends and asked them to ask her out for him, and the rest is history!

How He Proposed

December 15, 2018

We drove up to Williamsburg, Va on Friday night after I had suffered through a long week of final exams. I was stressed and tired and just wanted to have a relaxing weekend! Saturday we spent wandering Colonial Williamsburg drinking buttered rum and finishing up some Christmas shopping with my parents. Saturday night, Chris and I went alone to Busch Gardens Christmastown to see all the lights and get hot chocolate. We walked and walked and I started to get tired and wanted to ride the train around the property to see some more lights. Chris told me we would ride the sky ride to where we would board the train. We walked over to the sky ride and Chris took me into the handicap entrance. I was so embarrassed and kept saying, "But Chris, we aren't handicapped, we can't be here!" Chris shook the attendant's hand and handed him a piece of paper. I was so confused and embarrassed so I was looking around trying to act casual. We got into the next sky ride car, and as we rose into the air, Chris pointed down and told me to read what was on the roof. In lights it was written "Claire, will you marry me - Chris" on the roof. I immediately started crying and didn't even notice Chris on his knee handing me the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. I just kept crying and hugging him! When we got off the ride, a bunch of people were filming us and cheering, and it took me a few moments to realize they were our friends and family! Chris had been planning the whole thing for months and I had no idea! It was so special!
