Our love story began at the University of Mary Washington thanks to several cups of Blackstone Coffee. We first met at the beginning of Victoria’s senior and David’s sophomore year, but our friendship really began when David bumped into Victoria and her friend Savannah at breakfast before 9 am classes. As the semester progressed, so our pre-class breakfasts and study dates at Blackstone Coffee (which usually contained more conversation than studying). Within a few months, Victoria considered David one of her best friends, but denied any feelings she had for him, convinced that overstepping the friend zone would ruin our friendship. But on April 9, a month before graduation, Victoria realized she couldn’t hold back her feelings any longer and decided to tell David after their planned date to see Lady Windmere’s Fan that night. As they reached the last act of the play, she was desperately trying to figure out what to say when David reached for her hand, and the rest, as they say, is history! Three years later, after months of planning, David decided the perfect way to ask Victoria to marry him: at the University of Mary Washington campus where they first met. He planned to propose on the newly renovated amphitheater, but when he checked the weather, a storm was expected on the big day. There was a three hour window where rain would subside, which meant there could be no delays. Stressed but determined, he decided to do what was best — to wing it. Finally, December 21st arrived - the day to pop the question. David drove Victoria down to Fredericksburg and the weather was…amazing! Even though it was the first day of winter, it was 72 degrees and sunny. As they walked to amphitheater, David spotted their friend Sara in the distance, ready to capture the moment. As they reached the stage, he took Victoria’s hands and the words came out: “I want to spend the rest of my life having adventures with you. Will you marry me?” and Victoria responded “Yes!”
