Our wedding weekend

We can't wait to celebrate with you.

We cordially invite you to our wedding in Carrollton, GA which we aim to be filled with southern hospitality, good food and drink, and lots of opportunity to spend time together and interact. One of the main reasons we chose to have a wedding was the opportunity to have all of our friends and family, those who have (and do!) support us in one place at the same time. While it’s “our day” this wedding is about getting to see and celebrate all of you as much as it is about us continuing our commitment to one another through marriage. The vibe we are going for is an intimate, romantic evening to celebrate love and friendship, connecting all parts of our life. We hope this is a chance for our families to meet, our Atlanta friends to meet our home friends, our college friends to meet our Carrollton friends, and for everyone to make connections across states, friend groups and family lines. While we know weddings can serve as mini reunions, we also would encourage and love if everyone had the opportunity to get to know someone new throughout the weekend. Oh yeah, and we'll be getting married! :)

How we met

We think you know this but...

Many of you know this, but Jonathan and Katelyn met in 2017 through an online app. While they had never directly met in person, their friend groups and social worlds overlapped heavily and before even meeting one another they both knew it was something special. Their wedding day will be the 5-year anniversary of their first date, which took place at Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall in Atlanta the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Five days later, Katelyn and Jonathan arrived at the Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon together to all their friends surprise. That same day, Jonathan joined Katelyn and all her friends at her apartment for Thanksgiving dinner. He brought a HOMEMADE Irish Cream cheesecake topped with chocolate ganache and Katelyn was officially won over. This started a tradition that now, every Thanksgiving/anniversary, Jonathan makes a special over-the-top cake to celebrate. Their first year of dating, they supported each other through huge physical accomplishments - like Katelyn's first Ironman and Jonathan's 100-mile trail race. They also struggled through difficult times like the loss of Katelyn's grandmother. In the years since, they've continued to champion and support each other through the good and bad times of life. They've spent countless hours and miles in the car driving up and down the east coast multiple times from Florida to New Hampshire and road tripped all the way from Georgia to California. They've run hundreds of miles and countless races together from marathons in Finland to their favorite 3.5 mile loop directly from their front door. They survived the early days of a global pandemic, exploring new hobbies like wine-making and homemade pasta, and entertaining themselves within the walls of their own home, watching the sunset from their deck. While the world is still in "unprecedented" times and have no idea how long that will last, one thing they're sure of is that they've found the right partner and teammate to tackle life.

Why Carrollton?

There had to be other choices, right?

Jonathan moved to Carrollton, GA in 2009 from Florida, where he is from and attended undergrad at the University of Florida. His dad was living in Carrollton at the time and he came here to stay with him and get his Master's at the University of West Georgia. He got a great job at a company whose Corporate HQ were located here and stayed in Carrollton after his Dad moved back to Florida, settling into the community and co-founding a local community running group, the West Georgia Track Club. Katelyn moved to Atlanta in 2014 from the Northeast and was living the big city life when she and Jonathan first met. They traveled back-and-forth between Carrollton and Atlanta for the first year and a half of dating before deciding to move in together and buy a house. In April 2019, Katelyn made the move out of the city to Carrollton. While the reasons to move were plenty, and the Carrollton community welcomed her with open arms, it was still a big transition from city life. Katelyn likes to joke that for the first five years she lived in "Atlanta" but it wasn't until moving to Carrollton that she started living in GEORGIA. It was a little bit of culture shock for this Yankee. In choosing a location for a wedding, because our families are in different places, we knew people were going to need to travel. We decided to hold our wedding in Carrollton because this is where we started our life together. While we are so thankful to have started our relationship in this community, we also don't expect to live here forever. We wanted to celebrate our wedding with family and friends by inviting everyone to the town that laid the foundation for the beginning years of our relationship. While it might not be the most glamorous location, we are excited for those who choose to make the trip and we hope to show you as many elements of the parts of Carrollton that we love.
