Question

Why are you having your wedding in Oahu?

Answer

Oahu has been a special place for both of us throughout our lives and continues to be a place where we both feel at home. Kayo was born and raised on the island where most of her family remains. In the 1980's, Andrew's parents met on Oahu while attending Hawai'i Loa college. His family continues to visit the Hawaiian islands frequently.

Question

What's the deal with the papayas?

Answer

Andrew tasted his first Kahuku papaya in first grade while visiting Hawai'i for the first time. He remembers the day vividly as his father Darryl encouraged him to try a Kahuku papaya at breakfast. Never one to miss out on trying a new food, Andrew dove right in starting an epic love story between man and papaya. Each time Andrew arrives on Oahu, Noriyo (Kayo's mother), always has fresh papayas waiting. Sensing that Kayo felt left out of Andrew's first love, he decided to bring her into the papaya love story, proposing to her with the ring inside a hollowed out papaya. She said yes, firmly cementing her part in papaya history.
