We grew up down the street from each other without even knowing about it. Kenny was cast as Willy Wonka and Kaylene was cast as an Oompa Loompa in our middle school musical. Kaylene had a huge crush on Kenny but nothing happened then. We had similar friend groups through middle school and high school. In 2012 we began spending more time together with friends. One afternoon after school, Kenny invited Kaylene to come over and watch a movie. We ended up sharing a kiss on the couch. After the kiss Kenny said, "I guess I should probably take you on a date now...". We ended up seeing "Hunger Games" in theaters the next night.
We had purchased a Groupon for a Pizza and Music Train Ride in Duluth. It was a gift for our close friends David and Amanda Bishop with the plan to go on a weekend trip to Duluth together. Little did Kaylene know that Kenny had enlisted the help of David and Amanda to turn this trip into a proposal. As a team, they tricked Kaylene into getting her nails done and kept this secret through most of the trip. On day two of our trip we had plans to sight see up the North Shore Coast. We went on a 3.5 mile hike prior to finishing our day at Split Rock Lighthouse. We took the tour and worked our way up to the top of the lighthouse. While looking out the window to see Lake Superior, Kenny asked, "How long have we been together?". Kaylene answered. "About six years.'' Kenny then said "I should probably marry you now...". He got down on one knee and asked that question that Kaylene had been hoping for.
