How We Met

“Busy Little Bees”

Our story begins like many of the new age love stories - through a dating app - ours was Bumble. Casey was coming back from a trip to the lake with his business partners when all of a sudden he got a notification that he had a match. Little did KayLee know, Casey was not the one who swiped right on her. (Thank you Doug Porter) The entire next week, there was a lot of messaging back and forth about trying to figure out a meeting time. Casey's friend Vince was getting married the next week in Kansas City and both KayLee and Casey thought it would be a good chance to meet for the first time. Complete nerves from both sides, they both agreed to meet at a place that wouldn't be very stressful and a laid back place to enjoy some time together - Up Down Arcade Bar. The date went so well, that KayLee invited Casey to a preseason Kansas City Chiefs game, where he asked her to be his girlfriend. Since then, the two have been almost inseparable. KayLee and Casey had talked about going on a vacation to Hawaii almost since they started dating, where Casey asked the question on the beach at sunset on February 23rd.

The Proposal

2.23.20

KayLee and Casey had been planning a trip to Hawaii within a month after they started dating. Casey already had a trick up his sleeve: he knew that if they made it that long together, that he would ask KayLee to be his forever. During their second or third date while they were out getting sushi, Casey received a message from a fortune cookie. It read: "An unexpected relationship will become permanent". Casey held onto that fortune cookie for the right time: Hawaii. The mystery is still out there how Casey was able to keep such a secret from KayLee, as he bought the ring in early December, just waiting for the right moment in paradise to make the ask. KayLee and Casey landed on a Saturday night, and Casey knew he couldn't wait too long into this trip as his nerves and anticipation of excitement could not be contained. Sunday they spent the day driving around Kona Island enjoying paradise, when Casey found the courage to say today would be the day. After lunch, he approached KayLee's dad - Patrick - to let him know, tonight is the night. They hatched a scheme to trick KayLee into thinking that they were going to "watch the whales at sunset". During the walk down the beach, KayLee found a stack of rocks that someone had left in a unique pattern and she paused to take photos of it with the sunset. It was at this time that Casey knew the moment had finally come. Casey handed her the fortune cookie he had been holding so preciously so she could read it, and as she read it, he pulled out a binocular case. "These aren't binoculars in this case" Casey told KayLee as he proceeded to pull out the ring and drop to one knee. Overcome with emotion and joy, Casey couldn't even talk! (Shocker to anyone that knows him). He could barely seek out the words "KayLee Marie Divine.... will you Marry me?" They held each other closely after many moments of joy and conversation, and watched the sunset in paradise.
