Kayla and Henry first met when studying at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, where they spent their early college years as friends and neighbors in the Newman house. In 2018, a Thursday night tradition was born among the residents of 1722 State Street that included attending student Mass followed by dinner and drinks. Over a couple of margaritas, Kayla and Henry shared a conversation about Kayla’s dreams of going to law school and in it, discovered their mutual passion for social justice and realized there may be something more than friendship between them. It wasn’t long before Henry asked Kayla on a date, and they spent the evening enjoying pizza at Kate’s Pizza Amore and overlooking La Crosse from Grandad’s Bluff. Since then, they have been each other’s rock. They have celebrated their college graduations together, navigated career beginnings and spent quality time learning about one another and growing together in Christ. Now, after three years together, they can’t wait to start their lives as one and celebrate with their beloved family and friends!
Kayla and Henry's proposal was a bit unique as it ended up being inside of Henry's apartment! After a romantic Valentine's Day filled with Sunday mass and white roses, sipping wine, and a delicious homemade meal cooked by Henry (which almost ended in a trip to the ER after Henry accidentally cut his finger chopping onions), Henry spontaneously dropped to one knee and asked Kayla to marry him. It was exhilarating and beautiful, and truly the best surprise!
