Apparently, we do! Kayla and Delaney met at Stetson University in 2018 through Kayla's friend, Charlie (Jocie). Every year at Stetson, the Hand Art Center puts on a student showcase. This particular year, Delaney and Charlie both had pieces entered in the show. On the night of the opening, Charlie and Kayla passed Delaney on the street outside of the museum. Charlie and Delaney said their greetings and went on their way. As soon as Delaney was out of earshot, Kayla turned to Charlie and asked, "Who the hell is that?! And why don't I know them?!" Charlie replied with a confused face "Um... my sculpture teaching assistant? Why would you need to know them?" "Because they're obviously gay! I know everyone here that is queer. Charlie what the heck! The dating pool is only so big!" whisper-yelled Kayla. Charlie laughed and said they weren't sure if Delaney was actually into girls or not, to which Kayla rolled her eyes because the gaydar was strong! Fast Forward Two Weeks: Delaney was in the ceramic studio in the basement of Sampson Hall, in the middle of the night, when Charlie stormed through and up the stairs with her dog and a painting. After a beat, Charlie popped her head back in and asked if Delaney would be around for another few minutes. Figuring it had to do with sculpture class, Delaney said yeah, and continued working. When Charlie came back, she asked if Delaney would be willing to go on a blind date with her friend. Delaney hesitantly agreed, thinking that weirder things have happened, and got their number. The Next Day: Kayla was sick in bed, when Charlie bounded in and announced that she had single handedly solved all Kayla's girl problem because Kayla had terrible taste in women! Kayla rolled her eyes and pushed her off the bed, laughing. Charlie explained she had set up a blind date and that no amount of bribery or whining would make her spill the details. Kayla immediately refused. Because 1) they were sick, and 2) they thought they knew everyone Charlie knew and more. But after some savvy debating skills and bribery of a froyo trip, Kayla finally agreed. Fast Forward Two More Weeks: Kayla and Delaney both showed up at Boston Coffee House, the best place for coffee and sweet treats in DeLand, for their lunch date. Both were nervous at first, but quickly learned they had a lot in common. After they finished lunch neither wanted to leave, and luckily the annual art festival happening downtown was the perfect excuse to hang out longer. They strolled through the streets for the remainder of the day! Seeing their sculpture professor along the way. We soon realized that all of our friends knew each other, and we somehow had just barely missed the other for 3 whole years. How's that for a meet-cute? Thanks Charlie!
