Shuttle
May 4, 2024 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
If you plan to take the train from London, you can download the LNER or Trainline app to purchase train tickets or purchase them online. But tickets are far cheaper the longer in advance you purchase them rather than buying them at the station/day-of. The train ride from London King's Cross to Doncaster is 1.5 hours and then a 30 minute Uber/cab ride to the venue. From King's Cross to Selby is just under 2 hours and then a 12 minute Uber/cab ride to the venue. From King's Cross to York is 2 hours by train and then a 30 minute Uber/cab ride to the venue.
Travel Note
If you're taking the train from London on the day of the wedding and need a place to change, eat, or freshen up before the ceremony, there will be a changing room with showers and a breakfast cafe/lounge area available to you from 9am at The Stables Tearoom which is adjacent to the venue. Doors to the venue itself will open at 2pm for the ceremony. If you are planning to come straight to the venue from London instead of going to your hotel first, we will also be able to store any luggage you may have with you.
Shuttle
March 22, 2025 11:30 pm - 1:00 am
On-demand taxis and Ubers are limited from the venue, especially late at night, so we recommend booking a taxi in advance to pick you up from the venue through one of the below companies listed. There will, however, also be two coaches shuttling guests from the venue to local hotels at 11pm, 12am, and 1am. Coach 1 will be going on a route from Carlton Towers to Selby and Coach 2 will be going from Carlton Towers through Snaith to Goole.
Travel Note
Uber and Bolt operate in the surrounding areas but as it's the countryside they can operate quite slowly and can be difficult to get after 8pm. Rental Car
For our American friends who fancy driving on the other side of the road—Kayak has cheap deals for cars in the UK (as low as $18 a day) and all you need is your US driver's license and your passport to rent one. You won't need a car to get around in London but if you plan on exploring the north, it might be easier to get around with a car as public transport becomes a bit less practical in the countryside. We plan to take the train from London to York and rent a car from there for the wedding weekend.
Travel Note
If you are a US citizen you will need to fill out an ETA form to enter the UK as of January 8, 2025 but it's a quick and easy application you can fill out in the link below or also fill out at the airport itself — https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-electronic-travel-authorisation-eta. Whether you are flying into Heathrow or Gatwick airport, both have regular train services directly into London's major train stations. Heathrow to Paddington is a 20 minute train ride on the Heathrow Express and Gatwick to Victoria is 30 minutes on the Gatwick Express. If you have a significant amount of luggage (e.g., 2 large suitcases or 1 cumbersome suitcase with a gammy wheel) it may be worth getting a cab from the airport or from Paddington or Victoria station to your hotel as the English subway system (the tube) can have multiple stairs and lengthy walkways much like the Metro in NYC.
Travel Note
The tube and train system in London is easy to figure out and gets you pretty much everywhere—just follow maps and signage. You can visit https://tfl.gov.uk/maps for more info on getting around and click the Fares tab to see ticket costs. Similarly to a Metro card, you can get an Oyster card to put a pre-paid amount on it and top up as you go rather than buying single tickets each time you travel. There's also free, public WiFi underground so you can pull up the map/directions on your phone. Alternatively, there are frequent busses (the iconic red ones) that go in every which way. Uber and Bolt are also fully functional and the two most used rideshare apps in London. Or you could hop in one of London's famed black taxi cabs (akin to NYC's yellow cabs), although they tend to run slightly more expensive.
Travel Note
There are over 1,000 hotels in London but for more vetted options here is a list of the best, more affordable hotels in London (https://shorturl.at/lzUW4) and here is a list of luxury hotels (https://shorturl.at/fgtNY). As far as where to stay—if you're looking for something upscale with plenty to do in walking distance, try the West End (Soho, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, Oxford Circus, Westminster, Belgravia, Mayfair, Kensington, or Chelsea). It tends to be more pricey but is jam packed with things to do and is also home to Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the Houses of Parliament. If you're looking for something fun, vibrant, and more artisan then consider staying somewhere like Shoreditch, Brixton, Battersea, Camden, Notting Hill, or Hackney. Alternatively, places that are super well connected for transport will be near the stations of Victoria, Paddington, Liverpool Street, King's Cross, and Leicester Square (although pretty much everywhere in London is within walking distance to a station).
