We met in 2014, in our forensics class, during high school. We went to the same schools growing up but our paths had never memorably crossed up until we shared a class together. On the day we met we were tasked with completing a class project that involved measuring the classroom as if it were a crime scene. Katy, being annoyed by taking the tedious measurements, went to talk to the boy quietly putting the finishing touches on his project in the back corner of the room (aka me). After helping her with the project she later realized she’d never seen me before in school and thought I was “kinda cute”. Later we developed a flirtatious relationship and began talking more after that day. Soon after we shared several dates together and within a few weeks, we were officially boyfriend and girlfriend.

Katy thought the two of us were having brunch at Hall’s Chophouse in downtown Greenville, SC. What she didn’t know was what I had planned for her before we ate. Wearing our Sunday Best, I walked Katy around Fall’s Park while some mutual friends of ours set up the proposal site. Once Katy and I crossed over Liberty Bridge, we came to a stop at spot marked by sunflowers (her favorites). With “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran playing from a hidden speaker and the Reedy River cascading in a waterfall in the background, I dropped to one knee and proposed to Katy. To my delight, she said yes and made me the happiest man in the world.
