In December 2018, we met at a ministry conference while volunteering on a team together. After knowing (and liking) each other in person for a week, seeking advice from trusted advisors and praying about it, we decided to date... In January, Josh visited Katya in Seattle and BC, where we met each other's parents and several family members due to miraculous timing. In February, Katya took a sabbatical, staying with the wonderful Schierman family; she spent time praying, thinking, and talking a lot with Ms. Suedale about what she should do next. Josh clearly continued to pray as well, because Katya soon realized she needed to leave Abbotsford to be closer to him. In March, Katya visited Josh in Texas, where she met Josh's church family and was made aware of housing and job opportunities there. In April, Katya moved in with Josh's friend, Abby, in Longview, and Longview Evangelical Presbyterian Church kindly hired her on. Josh had to leave for over a month to work a job out of state during the summer, so Katya got to build a lot of new friendships on her own (but she missed him!). More dating, meeting friends and family ensued... In December, we went to Colorado for Christmas with Josh's brother's family, and on December 28th at the Garden of the Gods, we got engaged! Since then, we've joined a ministry organization together, taken marriage counseling, and planned a wedding during this pandemic! We still have quite the adventure before us. We hope to see you all at our wedding in Texas in August or at our BC reception in 2021!
