When people ask us how we met, Katy and I usually have the same response; we look at each other, smile, and shrug. To tell you the truth, we don't remember in the slightest. Super romantic, huh? What we DO remember, however, is the night that Katy totally started crushing on me... just kidding ;) It was senior year of college and finals were over for the semester. The next day I'd be heading home to Dallas, then flying to Florida to be the best man in my brother's wedding. Some friends were having a Christmas party at their house before everyone went home for the holidays. I went, just hoping there'd be eggnog. The party was fun; there were lots of friends, dancing, and loud, rap-versions of all the Christmas classics (shoutout Ludacris' masterpiece, Ludachristmas). Later that night, I was in the kitchen having exhausted my energy for small talk. It was then that I remember Katy walking in. She stopped to talk to me. I had known of Katy through mutual friends for years, but we'd never really had a full conversation until now. This girl was unbelievable. I'd never experienced being that comfortable with someone so quickly before. It just felt so easy. I remember laughing a lot. And so we spent the rest of the night there, in the kitchen, ignoring everything and everyone else to talk each other. We're getting married in October :)
Jeff and I had briefly talked about our timeline for engagement and marriage in the months preceding the big day, but we both enjoyed the idea of keeping most of the detail as a surprise. I was ready to say yes to whatever that looked like. It was a rainy Saturday in February. Jeff and I spent the morning enjoying brunch at one of our favorite spots and then he was off to spend the remainder of the afternoon/evening on set for a shoot in town (spoiler alert…there was no shoot). My roommate Kristen had asked me if I was free to have dinner with some friends that night and I said, "Sure!’, no questions asked. After Kristen missed the first, then the second, then the third…turn on our way to dinner I began to catch on as everything started to click. Not soon enough Kris pulled up to drop me off on the shore of Lady Bird Lake where Jonathan, Jeff’s brother, was waiting for me (a huge and wonderful!!! surprise). Jon lead me down the beginnings of a trail on the bank of the river and sent me off to walk the rest on my own. The sun was just setting, the rain clearing up, the trail was lined with lighted mason jars and lanterns dangling from the trees. I finally reached the bank of the river to find Jeff waiting for me. He got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. A moment I'll play over and over again in my head for years to come :) We spent the rest of the evening celebrating with family and friends, all of which we are incredibly grateful to have in our lives. It was the perfect day; romantic, thoughtful and just a small glimpse into the many joyous days to come. To say I count myself lucky in entering into marriage with Jeff is the understatement of the century. He is kinder, brighter, funnier, wiser, warmer and more gracious than I could ever dream to be. Saying yes to a life with him was the easiest decision I have ever made.
