What if I told you, on a cold night in February, it all started with a limo and a group of strangers? Katlyn planned a girls weekend with college roommate Bre and her sister in the Wisconsin Dells (because that's a great idea in February). After spending time at the water park during the day, they ventured out to experience the local nightlife. Showboat Saloon was the first stop where they decided to "just have one". One drink turned into they don't remember how many, and soon they were on the dance floor. A few songs in, a girl approached Bre and Katlyn, pointed out the large group of fun-loving people she was with (all up on stage), and asked if Bre and Katlyn wanted to bar hop with her and the group. That girl, Danielle, also said they had a limo waiting outside for transportation. Katlyn was in! (Bre obliged, #SaferInNumbers.) In the limo, Katlyn sat next to the guy in the sunglasses. That guy was Travis. The next day, which happened to be Valentine's Day, Travis took Katlyn to see the movie "How To Be Single" at her request. She was SO NERVOUS. He had never been more confident. Travis thought things were going well. Katlyn was just trying to remember his name.
After six weeks of texting (and pleading, if you ask Travis), Katlyn finally agreed to an in-person date. Since they lived four hours apart, they decided to meet halfway in Madison, Wisconsin, to watch the NCAA Final Four. Accompanied by some brews and Buffalo Wild Wings, they watched Villanova defeat Oklahoma and UNC beat Syracuse.
It was the only free fall weekend Sarah had, so she "bought a cheap plane ticket to visit Katlyn". Because Travis was going to visit for the weekend too, Katlyn immediately signed them all up for a 5k race organized in part by her friend, Nadia. Travis and Sarah shared knowing eye-rolls because they had been conspiring for weeks and had finally gotten Katlyn out of a work event scheduled for that weekend. Isabel, a long-time family friend, also "needed" models for a photography project. Again, Katlyn jumped at the chance to be involved, and Sarah and Travis nonchalantly accepted. On the morning of October 5, though Sarah and Travis considered faking injuries to avoid the race, they all drove to the race site and ran. Nadia was there, too, and Katlyn invited her to the photoshoot that afternoon. Nadia accepted! Travis and Sarah pushed Katlyn home without her knowing they were on a strict timeline. Back home, Katlyn was relaxed and enjoying doing her hair and makeup with her sis again. (Plus, Sarah helped with Katlyn's outfit, hair and accessories. Phew!) They headed to downtown Naperville where they met Isabel at the the bridge by the Dandelion Fountain. Katlyn and Sarah were up first for photos. Then Katlyn and Travis. Katlyn asked Sarah why she kept texting and looking up from her phone, but Sarah shrugged it off as nothing. Katlyn felt Travis' hand shake and when he started to say things like "I love you more than football", she knew something was up. As he got down on one knee, Katlyn yelled, "What are you doing?!" and happy tears filled her eyes. Before she could comprehend, a group of people appeared on the bridge. More happy tears and ugly crying. Friends and family from all over the country made the journey for this moment. Katlyn said yes, and then screamed with joy when she learned they were all headed to The Lantern (her favorite bar) to celebrate.
