Our story began in 2019 at the University of Texas at Austin, outside the Genetics discussion room in Burdine Hall. I was waiting by the door when Taylor walked up and asked if class had been canceled since the room was still locked, in which I responded that I had no clue. We chatted casually. Taylor explained, according to university policy, if the professor didn’t show up within 15 minutes of the class starting, we wouldn’t be marked absent. With a smile, Taylor said, “I’ll leave if you leave.” I laughed and replied, “Okay, I’m down.” From that moment on, we sat next to each other in class and discussion. What started as a simple connection turned into something much more as we became study partners, supporting each other through every assignment and exam. Later in the semester, during ACL weekend, Taylor sent me a Snapchat message asking if I had plans for Thursday night. When I said no, the response I got was simple but sweet: “Well, now you do.” with an attached itinerary. Little did we know, that small message would change everything. Before we knew it, we were sharing more than just notes – we were sharing our lives. What started as study partners turned partners for life, and we couldn't be more grateful that our professor forgot to email the class that discussions were canceled.
