The must-visit vineyard of Northern Virginia. Enjoy a glass (or two, or three...) of wine with a wood-fired pizza while gazing at Virginia's famous Blue Ridge Mountains. Loudoun County (it's pronounced "LOUD-in") is home to the fastest-growing wine region in the country, as Virginia's microclimate resembles the same conditions in grape-growing regions in southern France, allowing many of the same Old World grapes to thrive.
Traveling to downtown DC is accessible via 1 hour Metro train ride on the Silver line. Tickets are only $2.50 on the weekend, and can be purchased at the station. Get off at the Foggy Bottom GWU station, and you're walking distance to the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, White House, National Mall, the Potomac River, and many Smithsonian museums (free entry!) plus lots more historical sites, restaurants, and bars. In the evening, walking by Reflecting Pool at sunset and seeing all the monuments lit up under the moonlight is an unforgettable night out. If you prefer to venture beyond the touristy spots, head to the Dupont Circle neighborhood, which is also where we had our first date at Kramers bookstore & restaurant.
