Layne and Katie met when Layne came through the drive thru at Schlotzsky's, where Katie was working at the time. She learned his name and like any normal person with Facebook and a smartphone, looked him up online. At the time, Layne's profile picture was him and his red husky, Remy. Ironically, Katie's profile picture was her and her red husky, Aurora. Katie sent Layne a message asking if their dogs can be friends. Layne of course, said "no." Shocked, Katie "left him on read." A few days later, Layne came through the drive thru again and happen to come face to face with Katie, where he confronted her about not responding to his message. Put on the spot, Katie said she would respond as soon as she got off work. She kept her promise and did. Turns out, their dogs would not only become friends, they would end up sisters.

Katie and Layne bonded over a shared love of their dogs, music, and family. They spent their early days trying new places to eat, taking their dogs to the park while they played Pokémon Go, and hanging out in Layne's room listening to music. They both attended Missouri State where Layne graduated in 2021 with his BS in Finance and Corporate Investments. Katie graduated in 2022 and 2023 with her BS and MA both in Communication. Layne now works at Prime Inc. as an Accountant and Katie is an Event Coordinator for Outreach & Recruitment at MSU. When they aren't with friends or family, Layne and Katie like to go out to eat, go on walks, attend soccer games, play video games together, and spend time with their dogs. Layne and Katie still have Aurora and Remy, but together they recently added a new furry friend to their household, Nova, another husky.
