Renting an Airbnb is a cost-effective way to stay in The Bay. The Bay is big, and there are lots of options to stay outside of San Francisco. Oakland is a 45-minute transit ride, and any city south of San Francisco down to San Jose is driveable (especially outside of rush hour traffic.)
