Flight
Puerto Escondido has its own airport, PXM, which is right outside of the town centro by about 7 minutes and is serviced by a few major airlines such as AeroMexico, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris. There are often multiple flights available each day, some direct and some with minimal connections. For our friends flying out of San Diego: We recommend traveling via the Cross Border Express (CBX) Port of Entry to the Tijuana airport. This is a fast and convenient way to get from Otay Mesa straight into the Tijuana airport and save money on flights. (Often hundreds of dollars!). You will need to purchase a CBX ticket in addition to your flights. DO NOT select the San Diego (CBX via Tijuana) option as your origin when flying w/ Volaris, choose Tijuana (TIJ). For some reason when you choose the San Diego option Puerto Escondido doesn't show up as a destination & this option costs more as they're adding the CBX ticket. PS. Don't buy your CBX ticket through the airline, it costs more than buying it directly from their website or app.
Travel Note
Getting around in Puerto Escondido is a breeze! We suggest taking one of the many cabs that are waiting at the airport to your hotel/air bnb and then either renting a scooter/quad for the weekend, taking cabs, or using the collectivo (communal taxi service) depending on where you’re staying. We strongly discourage renting a car in Puerto! The price is much higher than the alternatives and the hassle has not been worthwhile, in our experience. Taxis in Puerto are very affordable and reliable. They can be reached at +52 958 103 7717. The collectivo is a bus, or a truck with a shaded back that runs down the main street in Puerto and can take you from one side of the town to the other. This runs about 30 pesos (roughly $1.50USD) to hop on and hop off. Finally, our favorite is scooters! These can be rented for around 300 pesos ($15USD) a day. We can add the places we have rented from! We recommend downloading whatsapp prior to your arrival. This will allow you to communicate with taxi services and rental companies. You will NEED to arrive with at least enough pesos to pay for your taxi from the airport (likely 300 or less).
Travel Note
Our wedding ceremony will be held on beautiful Playa Bacocho, which is very close to the town centro! Just 5 minutes south from Bacocho, you will find Playa Zicatella, where we recommend our guests stay close to. Playa Zicatella is centrally located to most of the bars, food, and activities we have planned for the weekend. There are several hotels on the main street in Zicatela as well as Air bnb's and hostels. Hildalgo/Rinconada are close to Bacocho but will require a scooter or cab for most other activities. This quiet area is close to several beautiful beaches and has great group Air bnbs! There are some great hotels and Air bnbs in the La Punta and Brisas de Zicatela areas just south of Playa Zicatella. These areas will also require a scooter or taxi for a lot of the events. La Punta is an experience of its own, with lots of great night life, restaurants, and bars. Most of the hotels in Zicatella are budget friendly, and average $125/night or less. Larger Air bnbs can be cheaper with a bigger group but both are an amazing option. Some of the Air bnbs offer an in house cook but keep in mind we will be eating and drinking at a lot of the great restaurants in town. CAUTION: When booking an Airbnb, make sure you look at the photos and confirm the location on a photo of the map. Many Airbnb type websites have trouble with dropping the pins for houses in wildly innacurate locations, which could lead to you accidentally booking an airbnb as far as an hour away from town. If you're not sure where your potential booking is, please feel free to reach out to us!
