when Katie and Matt met for their first date. The company was great and the conversation genuine, but full commitment came a few months later—in February 2020—just in time for the world to get a little… interesting. As they were planning to celebrate Katie’s birthday at the Richmond St. Patrick’s Day Festival, everything shut down. Suddenly, the questions typical of a new relationship—like “Where should we go out tonight?”—turned into “Are your roommates or family okay with me being in your quarantine sphere?” Despite the odd start, they quickly found their rhythm. Early mornings became their thing—5:00 a.m. workouts in local parks, logging miles side by side (or with Katie far behind, depending on the incline). More often than not, their lovable and slightly dopey Labrador, Rembrandt, tagged along. He wasn’t the fastest workout partner, but he was definitely the cutest. As their relationship deepened, so did the circle of connection—introducing the kids through outdoor hikes, family meetups, and weekend adventures. It all culminated in a pivotal moment: a Spring Break trip to Disney World that Matt not only supported—but planned. Between the mouse ears and rollercoasters the family bonding and blending took hold- Matt found a whole new kind of love. Through walks, workouts, campfires, takeout dinners, and quiet nights during the most unusual of times, they built a life around love, laughter, music and the outdoors. Travel and music became central to their relationship, and whether it was flying to a concert or a road trip to the beach, they made a point to always keep life a little adventurous. Now, a few years, a lot of miles, an added puppy named Zyggi, and a boatload of photographs later, they can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter—with all the people they love most.
