Some might call it coincidence, but to us, it feels like fate. We first crossed paths in Detroit — Jared had moved there for work, and Katie was completing her clinical rotations for medical school. Somehow, two people whose families lived less than 20 miles apart in Wisconsin had to travel hundreds of miles to meet each other. Life has a funny way of showing you that what is meant to be always finds a way. Our first date was in the middle of an ice storm. Jared was a gentleman, getting out of his truck to make sure Katie did not slip on the icy sidewalk. In that moment, Katie caught her first glimpse of who Jared is in every aspect of life — caring, kind, trustworthy, and the best man she has ever met. From the moment Jared saw Katie, he was convinced she was out of his league — beautiful, brilliant, and effortlessly funny. Katie suggested sushi for our first date, only to reveal she did not like sushi at all. She ordered a salad (and “the best mojito in town”); Jared laughed; and just like that, something special began. In the weeks and months that followed, we became inseparable. Every conversation made us want the next one. Every moment together made us want more. As life took us through moves and milestones — weekends spent boating in Michigan, concerts in Chicago, walks along the lake with our pup — Gauge, learning to ski together, Packers games, and time with our families back home — our relationship only grew stronger. We found comfort in each other’s worlds and joy in blending them. The proposal was something out of Katie’s storybook dreams. While showing Jared her favorite place in the world — the breathtaking island of Kauai — Katie unknowingly set the stage for the question he had been waiting to ask. Jared insisted on planning a day himself (a clear giveaway that something was up), but still managed to somewhat keep the surprise. At sunset, on her favorite beach, he asked her to spend forever with him. Our story is rooted in serendipity, strengthened by partnership and mutual respect, and filled with laughter, adventure, and a love that keeps growing. We can’t wait to continue writing it — side by side. Together, we make every moment a celebration.
