Our First Date

Our first date was at Chick-fil-A. We worked there, so everyone knew us. After we ate, several of our friends came and brought us a complimentary milkshake with two straws on a tray covered in whipped-cream and cherries in the shape of a heart. It was adorable and we were not ready to share that kind of sappy experience!

The Days Between

Except for a few occasions, we have not gone a day without at least stopping by each other's work place and grabbing a quick hug. We love spending the mundane with each other in addition to the fun dates. There are countless occasions when we go to Target together for something small and end up talking in the parking lot for an hour.

The Proposal

Our proposal was a scavenger hunt that touched all of the major destinations of our blooming relationship: Chick-fil-a, a friend's house for pool, the Aquarium, Coolidge Park, sushi, and a rainy walk on the Walnut Street Bridge. The rain was freezing and got stronger by the minute. Even though hands were numb and an umbrella broke from the gusts, the moment was perfect!

Wedding Traditions

American and Swedish Themes

Due to Gus' Swedish heritage, we have decided that we would like to honor some of the traditions from Sweden during our wedding celebration: Myrtle leaves are traditionally used in Swedish weddings to symbolize innocence and purity. These leaves will be found in the bouquet and in the garland on Katie's head during the ceremony. Uncooked rice is traditionally thrown in the air as the bride and groom walk by. We will use a small amount of uncooked rice mixed with seeds for children too young for the sparklers. Speeches are not limited to the maid-of-honor and the best man! In Sweden, anyone is openly invited to give a speech at any time during the reception dinner. Feel free to give one yourself! In Sweden, there is a tradition that if the bride or the groom leaves the room for any reason at all, anyone can kiss the one remaining. We have decided that it would be fun to include this tradition, but we will not permit any lip-on-lip action. Feel free to give one of us a peck on the cheek if the other leaves the room!
