Many of you know that we first met when we were just 10 years old! Brian was the talk of Bollinger Canyon Elementary School in 2004, being the new kid from Hawaii. Since we were in different classes, we didn't get to know each other well until middle school, where we had several classes together and became good friends. Brian even went to Katie's 12th birthday pool party- we have a really embarrassing picture to prove it :) Fast forward to high school: we were really close friends, despite all of our friends always teasing us that we would one day end up together. We went to homecoming together in 10th, 11th, AND 12th grade (just a friendly reminder that Brian was Homecoming King senior year!). We maintained our friendship in college and stayed in close touch throughout the years... with some flirting here and there... After Katie moved home from Spain in 2019, Brian decided it was finally time to call her and ask her out. Our first date was in downtown Pleasanton (which is where we live now!) and the rest was history! (We eventually admitted that we may have had a little crush on each other over the years...) We went from friends to falling in love, and now enjoy spending time together playing pickleball, watching documentaries, having game nights with friends, and taking the occasional day trip to San Francisco. And that brings us to our engagement story. On January 7th, 2024 (Brian's 30th birthday), we decided to spend the day in San Francisco, enjoying a walk and sandwiches near the Golden Gate Bridge. It was there that Brian got down on one knee and popped the question! It was the perfect afternoon. Meanwhile, Katie thought she was being clever planning a surprise birthday party for Brian at her parents' house. Little did she know, Brian was in on it the whole time! It was actually an engagement party disguised as a birthday celebration—Katie had NO idea! It was truly the best day ever! We are so grateful that so many of you have played a big part in our story, and we can’t wait to celebrate our love with you in June!
