This is the largest and most used airport on the island. It is easy to get a taxi or UBER from arrivals.
House Or Rental
We would recommend staying in an AirBNB somewhere within or near Old San Juan. If you would like a hotel, we can help connect you with a reservation. Keep in mind that the Spaniards did not forecast the invention of cars when planning the old city. Street parking can be difficult to find, but there are 5 parking garages in Old San Juan all within reasonable walking distances. If you would rather stay outside of Old San Juan, some other popular areas include Condado, Ocean Park, Isla Verde, Miramar or Hato Rey. **Click on the VIEW button below for a handy map of places to stay and other Puerto Rico highlights.
Rental Car
We always use Enterprise when renting a car in Puerto Rico. There are discounts through Costcotravel.com if you are a Costco member. **If you stay outside of the San Juan metro area, you need to rent a car as there is no reliable public transportation and it is hard to get an uber or taxi outside of the city center.
Travel Note
If you're staying outside of Old San Juan, it may be easiest to leave your car parked at your accommodations and get a taxi or Uber into the old city. If you'd like to drive in with your rental, here are the 5 public parking lots in Old San Juan Doña Fela - Local favorite, very cheap. Its facade is painted with a beautiful mural honoring its namesake. Estacionamiento Paseo Portuario - Newer, but more expensive La Puntilla Parking - Largest parking lot in Old San Juan Ballaja Parking Lot - Closest to El Morro and other popular attractions. La Cochera - We can only recommend it for smaller cars. In most garages you take a ticket and keep it with you. You will either pay at a cashier's window or ticketing machine on the main floor before returning to your car to exit. Make sure you have enough cash to pay, some places do not accept credit cards. After you pay, you will have 15 minutes to insert the paid ticket at the exit to leave the garage.
Rental Car
Yep, they've got those in Puerto Rico too. You can always get around with Ubers in the San Juan Metro area. If you want to venture out of the big city and explore the island, you'll need to rent a car.
