Question

What about COVID-19?

Answer

We understand that the future is uncertain and you may be hesitating to RSVP due to COVID. We encourage you to RSVP and reserve your hotel room at the very least. If things need to change later on, you can update your RSVP. The hotel will allow cancellations up to 48 hours prior for a $25 fee. At this time COVID-19 restrictions have been lessening around Routt County and Steamboat Springs. Masks are not required for vaccinated people but some places are suggesting that un-vaccinated individuals continue to wear a face covering.

Question

I am a parent...

Answer

Part of the beauty of getting married in your thirties is sharing in the joy of your family's and friends' children. Whether you want a private get away with your parenting partner or to make it a family affair, we support you. That being said, because our ceremony and reception site is on an unsupervised lake and pool, we gently ask that you leave your children back at the hotel with the super fun childcare options. Please let Brice or Katie know if you are considering bringing kids and we will share details with you.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

We recommend that you pack two nicer outfits, one for the welcome dinner and one for the wedding. That aside, pack a bathing suit (for hotel pool and hot springs!), athleisure clothes, walking shoes, and overall comfortable clothing. Summers in Colorado tend to be in the 80s during the day but can get down to the 60s at night, so bring a sweater, light jacket, or sweatshirt that you can wear in the evenings. Steamboat is overall very casual and most restaurants accept all attire from straight-off-the-mountain on up. Sunscreen is a MUST at higher altitude so do yourself a favor and pack it or make sure to buy some ASAP.

Question

Can I Uber around town?

Answer

NO. Do not count on using ride shares, Uber, or Lyft in Steamboat. There is maybe one driver for each and it costs a LOT. These services are horribly unavailable in Colorado mountain towns. Most people without cars get around town by hotel shuttle, free bus system, bike, or walking.

Question

How can I keep from getting altitude sickness?

Answer

Part of the reason why we are asking guests to arrive by Wednesday is so that they can acclimate to the altitude of Steamboat Springs before the wedding festivities! Steamboat is around 7,000 ft above sea level. While many people visit and feel no symptoms at all, some can experience fatigue, nausea, dizziness, sleeplessness or headaches due to the altitude. To avoid these, we recommend NOT drinking alcohol the first night you are here. We also recommend drinking moderately more water than usual throughout your visit. You will also want to save any hikes, gondola rides, and very salty foods for later on in your visit. If you do become sick from altitude, drinking plenty of water, taking it easy, and taking pain killers can alleviate the symptoms. Most people acclimate and feel normal within 1-2 days.

Question

I want to hike but I don't want a challenge...

Answer

There are a lot of options for you! We love Fish Creek Falls as it can be an easy hike or a very hard hike depending on how far you go. In addition there is a paved trail along the Yampa River that shaded and wonderful. We highly recommend taking a stroll through the Steamboat Botanical Garden!

Question

I want to hike and I DO want a challenge....

Answer

There are a lot of options for you! For starters, you can hike anywhere on Steamboat mountain, right across from the hotel. Fish Creek Falls is another great hike. If you make it past the congested lower falls you can hike up to 5 miles beyond to the upper falls. It's stunning! For an even bigger challenge the Zirkle Circle is a 10 mile excursion where there will likely be snow, river crossings, and more. (We only recommend that for our most experienced hiker friends).

Question

Does alcohol affect you more at altitude?

Answer

YES. This is not a myth. You will feel the effects of alcohol quicker and more strongly if you are coming from lower altitude. If you choose to drink while visiting, we recommend starting slow to prevent any.. er.... unwanted side effects.

Question

Can I purchase marijuana?

Answer

Ok, we will just put this out there as we know some of y'all are thinking it! Marijuana is legal in Colorado and out of state individuals can purchase small amounts of it while visiting. However, it is illegal to possess it across state lines or to have at the airport. If you do choose to purchase marijuana while visiting, please let your budtender know if you are an inexperienced user AND make sure to use it or lose it before you leave.

Question

How can I experience Steamboat on a budget?

Answer

We both work in education so we are well familiar with the reality of a budget. There are many free or inexpensive things to do in Steamboat, including most outdoor activities (avoid the guided ones). Most restaurants have good happy hour prices. We encourage you to utilize the free transportation provided by the hotel or the city bus system to avoid car rentals and parking fees. One of our favorite activities is to walk alongside the Yampa River (1 mile from hotel) and follow it up with a beer in town. The hotel does provide some rooms with kitchenettes, and there is a grocery store conveniently close (and on a bus line) from the hotel. Eating in can save a lot of money, as some restaurants in town will add up over a few days.
