How We Met - Kati’s Version

Tinder Success Story

Have you ever heard of a dating app called Tinder? Well if you haven’t then you’re doing pretty well in life. He lived in Darien, and I lived in Lombard. These cities were just close enough for our app to ping each other, and it did just that. My first thought was that he was cute (except for the long goat beard that he sported for way too long), so I swiped right. Thankfully he did too. We messaged back and forth for about a month before we decided to meet. He was going to pick me up after school to take me to a White Sox/Royals game, so that morning I woke up early to get extra pretty before starting my day. I completely forgot that our tri games were after school, and of course it had to be sand volleyball. Obviously I had to play. By the time he picked me up I was a hot, stinky mess. So here I was with bright orange hair, covered in sand, and there he was with his black hair slicked back, gold chain, and his chest hair hanging out like he was in the mob. He waited with my friends while I cleaned up a bit. First date - already running late. At least I was preparing him for our future! Now we’re on the way to the game, and neither of us are Sox/Royals fans by the way. He’s all for the Cubs, and I’m the smart one of the relationship who’s a Cardinals fan. What does he do on the way there? Light up a cigarette! He asks if it’s okay first. In my head I’m thinking “strike one” but I say “yeah I don’t mind”. About halfway through the game we were standing in line waiting for food. What does Brian decide to do? Litter! I told him to pick it up. On our first date I already was telling him what to do, so I’ve been showing my true colors from day one. He didn’t, so I picked it up and threw it away. Strike two! Overall the date was wonderful, and I decided to meet him the next day too. And the rest is our beautiful history! This all started on September 26, 2014.

Brian’s Version

Well it all started as one would think, on an app. I was young and looking for someone, but not just anyone. The first thing that caught my attention was Kati’s eyes, so I decided to swipe right. We talked for about a month before our schedules allowed us to meet. What’s the best first date? A baseball game, of course. I was picking her up from her school campus. She was playing sand volleyball and still playing when I showed up. My first thought was ok she has no sense of time cause she’s late, but she was playing a sport which was a plus. She saw me and subbed out then went to change. When she came back I noticed that she did not shower and was still sandy. Me being a clean person I’m thinking great my car is going to have sand all over it now. It was an exciting game and what made it more exciting was how into baseball she was. Then it was time to leave. Usually you leave your trash there at the seats, but Kati had other plans and told me to pick it up. Well I did and she’s been telling me what to do ever since!
