Kathy and Joe met the modern way: liked each other on Hinge in 2019! During this time, Kathy lived in Brookline and worked for Boston Scientific outside of the city, while Joe lived in East Boston and worked downtown for Wellington Management. Their paths, likely, would not have crossed otherwise as they maintained separate ecosystems professionally and socially in Boston. Their first date was at The Hawthorne, a lovely speakeasy cocktail bar directly adjacent to The Hotel Commonwealth lobby. They enjoyed a night of jokes, stories, and libations, all setting the foundation for their relationship today. The second date was when they both realized that there was something there and there was no looking back. A weekend brunch in the seaport at one of their favorite seafood restaurants, Row 34, followed by a spontaneous trip to the movie theatre (Green Book), a sushi dinner, and finally, a nightcap at a local dive bar. The short version is that the rest is history. However, this may be the one time the long version is worth sharing. Kathy and Joe survived the pandemic in Florida with Joe's parents, where two weeks to flatten the curve turned into six months of quarantine. A few months after returning to Boston, with a gentle nudge from Joe’s mom, they moved into a beautiful condo in East Boston. The consolidation of belongings, living space design and formal recognition of living together was finally complete. Fast forwarding to February 2022, Kathy and Joe became engaged in the frigid cold while the snow fell, overlooking the Boston skyline from Piers Park in East Boston. They married two weeks later in an intimate ceremony at The Country Club, surrounded by only family members and closest friends, followed by an afterparty at Nebo in downtown Boston for all the local friends and closed the bar on a Saturday night. It was a truly magical day that wouldn't have been the same without everyone's unique and individual contribution. In the Spring of 2022, two exciting things happened. Kathy was admitted to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business's MBA program, where Joe's dad went for his MBA (coincidence?). On the day they were to visit Chicago for the admitted student weekend, Joe received a job offer from MFS Investment Management after a long search and interview process. They left Chicago a few days later, having made the deposit for Booth and accepting the MFS offer in writing. This significant change in their relationship, including living in two different cities, was a lot to digest. Still, it never once broke their resolve and desire for achievement as a team. While Joe is racking up airline status and holding the business end of the home together, Kathy is forever altering the course of their future by building relationships, attending Nobel Laureate lectures, and positioning the next steps of her career path. We are incredibly excited to celebrate our special day with you and look forward to dancing the night away with all our favorite people!
