Grant and Katie both attended Sonoma State University at the same time, however, their paths never crossed while in college. It wasn’t until May of 2016, after Grant had graduated, that their story began. One of Katie’s best friends, and now bridesmaid Brooke, invited her to tag along to the Cecil’s home in Discovery Bay for Memorial Day weekend. It was then that Katie and Grant found themselves sitting on the patio meeting for the first time and wondering how they went years without ever meeting each other. While talking, Grant’s mother, Nancy, came running over with a camera. What they thought was an awkward photo of nearly strangers, has become a very special photo of the beginning of their lives together. Katie graduated college the following year, and they soon found themselves often hanging out with the same group of friends living in the San Francisco Peninsula. In March of 2017, Grant asked Katie to be his date to a black-tie gala being held at San Francisco City Hall. Not only was this their first date, but Katie would be meeting Grant’s entire family at the event… It was a VERY bold move on Grant's behalf. Katie was so nervous she nearly canceled. By some miracle that is still unknown, Katie found the courage to go, not knowing that it would be the start of forever together!
