Armed with a discount for Lyft, Jake hailed a ride in Boston one night in May 2016. The car stopped to pick up a second passenger. As Jake remembers that moment, a beautiful woman hopped in beside him, wearing a jean jacket and what he now knows was probably at least two sprays of her favorite perfume. Kathleen remembers how quickly Jake hung up on his brother, Noah, eager to engage in conversation. By the end of the twelve-minute drive, Jake had asked for Kathleen’s number. Despite being in the midst of his MD/PhD, Jake’s research swiftly pivoted from neuroscience to date ideas with Kathleen. After sailing on the Charles River, rock climbing (overcoming her petrifying fear of heights), Vespa rides through winding city streets, rooftop parties, and several romantic picnics, Kathleen was fully wooed.
