Graz Arrival Day

The 12th is the perfect "arrival day/flight recovery day/exploring Graz" day. We have no formal plans, and encourage everyone to relax, sleep, wander around the city and explore (see our "Things to Do" page for some ideas!) We'll all probably coordinate in a group text thread day of if anyone would like to join Katherine and Joe

Dress Code: Casual/"Anything Goes" (Katherine will likely wear a fun dress or jumpsuit, Joe will likely wear jeans with a short-sleeved tee or button-down. Someone, probably Katherine, will wear a smoking jacket. Locals wear anything and everything here, so you can't go wrong.)
THE ESSENTIALS: - 15-minute walk from Hauptplatz, the city center - Public Transit (10 minutes): From the Hauptplatz stop, Take the #1 tram towards Mariatrost or the #7 tram towards LKH Med Uni. Get off either tram at the Lichtenfelsgasse/Kunstuniversität stop, and walk 2 minutes to Cohibar. - English-Speaking Staff: Yes, high fluency THE DETAILS: Cohibar is a casual, locals-only Cuban-themed cocktail bar that Katherine and Joe visit at least once every time they're in Graz. Access to Havana Club Rum, your choice of Cuban cigars, and some of the best bartenders in the city keep K+J coming back. (That, and the comically large photo of Che Guevara) - Recommended Cocktails: Joe gets the Cuba or Havana Libre, Katherine gets the Caipirissima or Playa del Mar Recommended Food: Platanos Fritos, Enchiladas de Verdura Recommended Cigars: Anything Cuban! Aufsteirern Festival in Graz
12:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Austrian Tracht (Dirndl/Lederhosen) OPTIONAL, comfortable walking shoes required! K+J will wear Tracht. Suggested attire outside of Tracht: For ladies, a comfortable day dress," skirt/top, or smart casual top/pants. Prioritize your comfort - bride has worn everything from full length dirndl to leather skirt with teeshirt over the years. Gentlemen: Smart casual. More Tract details in FAQ section
The annual Aufsteirern Festival in Graz starts at 12 noon in the main square (Hauptplatz). Of course, guests can arrive and leave when they like, but Katherine and Joe will be there at 12. Here is a schedule of the festival events, so you can find what interests you the most. Post-Aufsteirern Dinner+Drinks at Der Steirer

Dress Code: Smart Casual/Trachten. Local men usually wear blazers with jeans, local ladies usually wear a "Date Night"-esque dress, slacks, or jumpsuit. Because of the Aufsteirern Festival, you'll see lots of people in traditional Trachten, especially at this location. K+J will likely wear their Trachten from the festival.)
THE ESSENTIALS: - 7-minute walk from Hauptplatz, city center - Public Transit (5 minutes): From Hauptplatz, take the #1 tram towards Eggenberg/UKH, the #6 towards Smart City, or the #7 towards Wetzelsdorf. Ride 1 stop on any of these trams, get off at Südtiroler Platz/Kunsthaus, walk 2 minutes. - English-Speaking Staff: Yes, high fluency THE DETAILS: Der Steirer ("The Styrian Man") is one of city's most loved establishments, serving traditional food from the beautiful Steiermark region. Katherine and Joe have known Michael, the restaurant's Head Waiter, for years - he is an institution in the city and helped Joe plan a secret dinner after proposing to Katherine! You can also buy a bottle of wine from their attached (small) wine store. - Recommended Wine: Whatever Michael recommends - Recommended Food: Katherine always gets the Styrian salad and Backhendl. Some people will have cars (we would be grateful for those willing to take along a couple other guests) and we will also arrange for transportation for additional guests.
