The First Meet

Fresh Love

We first matched on a dating app and had some pretty normal conversations, but interesting enough to suggest a meetup. Our first date was a little unique. We met at Barnes & Noble, grabbed coffee at Starbucks, and then drank our coffee while browsing books and chatting. After that, we walked around a big plaza and were having such a great time that we decided to have dinner at Olive Garden. We kept chatting through dinner and had such a blast that we didn’t want the date to end, so we decided to go get ice cream. We sat on the sidewalk on top of a hill, eating ice cream and looking at the stars and city skyline, talking about music. By this point, we’d already been hanging out for about six hours! We decided we still weren’t ready for the night to end, so we went back to my car and, yes, played tic-tac-toe on the sunroof with the condensation. It was a little goofy, but it was a perfect end to the night. We finally wrapped up around midnight, even though we’d started at 2 PM. Safe to say, this was probably one of the longest first dates ever! When I got home, I told my mom all about him and knew, without a doubt, that he was the one. — Katherine

The Next Step

Proposal

The day had finally arrived—not just the day I planned to propose, but also our one-year anniversary. You see, I wanted to do a big, grand proposal, but one she wouldn’t see coming. So, what better way to hide it than by disguising it as our anniversary? For weeks leading up to the big day, I spent time finishing her ring and preparing her anniversary gift, which also doubled as the proposal set up at the Arlington University Planetarium. When the day finally came, I was definitely nervous; not about whether she would say yes, but about making sure everything went according to plan. We arrived at the planetarium, and she had no idea what was about to happen. As we walked inside, she was surprised to see a fancy table for two set up in the center of the planetarium. We proceeded to enjoy a three-course meal, and just as we finished our dessert, a message appeared on the screen: Will you marry me? She saw it first, and it totally caught her off guard. As soon as I realized what was happening, I quickly pulled out the ring and said: "Katherine Salvatore, I love you, and all I want is you. For all my life, I’ve felt like something was missing, but I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. Then I met you, and you made me realize that all I want is to spend the rest of my life with you. I don’t care about my job or anything else because all I want is to spend every moment with you. Will you marry me?" From that moment on, she changed the rest of my life for the better, and I can’t wait for her to be my wife. — Landon
