Sean and Kate met the old fashion way: On Hinge. After Sean aced a battery of questions (Politics? Check. Family Goals? Check. Sense of Humor? Check.), they met in Santa Monica – on the bluffs at sunset – before walking to Chez Jay for dinner. They clicked immediately and had so much fun that their dinner lasted four hours. The waitress was so enthralled, she asked them how long they’d been together. Sean told her to guess: She thought it was their five year anniversary. He just smiled and told her it was their first date. Not wanting the night to end, they hit Ye Olde Kings Head Tavern, commandeering the jukebox within minutes of arrival. They shared a few rounds of drinks, several rounds of laughs – and the rest, as they say, is history.
Sean had the perfect plan: A sunset proposal in Joshua Tree. His only obstacle: Kate’s insistence that it was too cloudy to see the sunset in Joshua Tree. After a little coaxing – and some very helpful behind-the-scenes-work from Sean’s mom – Kate agreed to slip away from her family for a few hours to catch a sunset out in the desert. They perched themselves atop a cozy rock, surrounded by Joshua Trees. After some wine – and lots of nervous giggles – Sean revealed a beautiful diamond ring. He asked Katharine Jane Hauschka if she would marry him. As she smiled and wiped away a tear, she said: “Absolutely. 100%.”
