Katey and Eric met on a first date at Fire by the Monon in Broad Ripple within Indianapolis. The night was spent easily talking to each other with instant chemistry. Eric warned Katey that he was an enormous nerd but that was no deterrent for Katey. After dinner Eric walked Katey to her car and asked for a second date to which Katey said yes. Eric walked with skip in his step to his car looking forward to his next date. He was so thrilled that he forgot that he had only parked across the street and had walked a block past his car.

On the day he planned to pop the big question, Eric woke early that Sunday to get ready. He had purchased a bouquet of roses the day before and left them at Katey's best friend Sam's apartment next door. He picked them up and set up a scavenger hunt for Katey to find the roses at 3 locations they had been on dates to. At the 4th and final location, the Indianapolis Arts Center in Broad Ripple, Eric was waiting with a ring!
