Robert and Laura met in the most quintessential 'millennial-classic' places of them all: In the club. If you let Robert tell it, he says that he recognized Laura from social media long before he decided to approach her. Initially, Laura was suspicious of Robert's interest. He was a quiet and reserved DJ, and she was a single mother of two. Laura thought he was crazy. Yet soon enough, Laura let her guard down and the two of them took a risk on love. Laura knew it was real once Robert met her two daughters. Seeing how quickly her girls took to him along with his natural paternal instincts, put to rest any reservations Laura held. The following years, the couple experienced a series of ups and downs. With the loss of Laura's mother and the loss of Robert's grandfather, their love gave them the strength to conquer their grief. Soon after, the couple welcomed a son, sealing the deal for their blended family.
The start of every new year is even more meaningful to Robert and Laura. While everyone else is bringing in the new year, the couple is also celebrating each other's' birthdays', and the date that literally started it all, their anniversary. To celebrate their favorite time of the year, Laura and Robert decided to take a trip to Waikiki, Hawaii. On February 2, 2018, the couple watched fireworks at the Hilton Hawaiian Village on the Waikiki Beach resort where they were staying. After an unforgettable grand finale, Robert and Laura enjoyed an incredible dinner and made what Laura believed was an impromptu visit to the beach. "I heard there were turtles on the shore. We should go look," Robert offered excitedly. The two headed to the beach and to Laura's dismay, saw NO TURTLES. Laura decided to sit down in the sand while Robert bent down facing the ocean. Laura couldn't make out exactly what he was doing but assumed he was attempting to write their names in the sand. Since the beginning of their trip, the two of them kept trying to write their names in the sand without the ocean washing it away. In this moment, Laura thought it was another attempt at the challenge, as she scrambled for her phone to capture the picture he was suddenly requesting. Laura's only thought was to get a clear photo as she raced against the speed of the waves. "Will you marry me?" flashed across the phone screen, yet until she glanced up and saw Robert down on one knee, she didn't realize what it said. He was holding a beautiful rose gold engagement ring. Everything was so perfect, Laura couldn't believe what was happening. After a few "Shut ups," and "Are you serious?" remarks, Laura stated, "Yes, of course I will." As they approach their wedding day, Robert and Laura continue to feel swept away by their all encompassing love. Next year, the couple will Set-in-Stone their commitment to one another as they reminisce about the most perfect proposal...even without the turtles.
