Things To Do

National Museum of the Marine Corps

18900 Jefferson Davis Highway, Triangle, VA 22172
, (703) 432-1775

This is also the location of the ceremony! If you’ve got a few extra days to kill in the area, particularly with kids, the museum has a ton of interactive exhibits and houses refurbished helicopters and tanks used in combat throughout the history of the Marine Corps.

Burke Lake Park

7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station, VA 22039
, (703) 323-6600

This is a spot that Kate’s family would go to on the weekends when the Shrimpton girls were younger. It’s got wonderful walks through the woods, a train and carousel, and some fitness obstacle courses for those who want to work out while they’re here.

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

Washington, DC 20560
, (202) 633-1000

For the nature and animal lover, and those who want to check out DC, this is a great museum to go to and has a ton of fantastic exhibits. Big hits are the dinosaur fossils, the Hope diamond, and the Hall of Mammals.

Potomac Mills

2700 Potomac Mills Circle, Woodbridge, VA 22192
, (703) 496-9330

This is an outlet mall with a movie theatre and lots of great stores. If you forgot anything or need a last minute wedding outfit, this is the place to go!

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

14390 Air and Space Museum Parkway, Chantilly, VA 20151
, (703) 572-4118

Kate's favorite museum - full of aircraft spanning a century of warfare, featuring the Space Shuttle Discovery, the Lockheed Blackbird, and the B-52 Superfortress Enola Gay.

George Washington's Mount Vernon

3200 Mount Vernon Highway, Mount Vernon, VA 22121
, (703) 780-2000

George Washington’s home! For any of our out-of-town visitors, this is a must-see. The home is open for tours and the museum details George Washington’s life, as well as life on the plantation in the mid-late 1700s.

Fairfax Corner

4100 Monument Corner Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030

The site of our first date! This outdoor shopping center has some great restaurants and shops, as well as a movie theatre.

Torpedo Factory Art Center

105 North Union Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
, (703) 746-4570

A WW2 era torpedo factory that was remodeled into an art center. You can watch local artists at work and buy some of their pieces, as well as walk around the nearby waterfront and grab some ice cream at Ben & Jerry's!

Lincoln Memorial

2 Lincoln Memorial Circle Northwest, Washington, DC 20037
, (202) 426-6841

If you are here for a little bit longer, go see the Commandant's Own perform at the Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday nights!

National Museum of the United States Army

1775 Liberty Drive, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060

This is the location of the reception! If you don't find the time to check out some exhibits on the day, you can come back and visit.

Tysons Corner Center

1961 Chain Bridge Road, Tysons, VA 22102
, (703) 893-9400

One of the biggest malls in the area - it has a ton of cool shops, good restaurants, and is a great place to get some shopping done!
