Vashon Island

Accommodations are limited on the island so we suggest you book a place to stay through Airbnb or Vrbo as soon as possible! There are two ferries to the island. One leaves from West Seattle (Fauntleroy) and one from Tacoma (Point Defiance). Schedules can be found at the link below! You can walk or drive onto the ferry. Car lines can be long (you are guaranteed a spot if you walk on), especially in the summer, so we suggest planning for an earlier ferry than you actually need in case the boat overloads.

West Seattle (Fauntleroy Ferry Dock): West Seattle - Fauntleroy Ferry Dock - to Vashon Island. Because of its close proximity to the Seattle metro area, the Fauntleroy ferry dock is where most people go to come to Vashon Island. Tacoma (Point Defiance Ferry Dock): If you are coming from the South end of the Puget Sound (Tacoma), there is the Point Defiance ferry dock which brings you to the south tip of Vashon Island known as Tahlequah. This dock is a little less busy than the north end dock, but note that the last ferry departs the island for the evening before 11 pm (the West Seattle ferry runs later).

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

For those flying into SeaTac International Airport, if you don't rent a car, you can take an Uber/Lyft to the West Seattle Ferry Terminal and walk onto the boat. There are no Ubers on Vashon, so we suggest renting a car if you want to explore the island more!

Seattle and Tacoma Hotels

There are a number of hotels in downtown Tacoma. We recommend Hotel Murano and Courtyard by Marriott Tacoma Downtown. These are about a 15 minute drive to the Point Defiance Ferry. West Seattle is home to a number of Airbnb rentals if you are planning on taking the West Seattle ferry to the island.

Shuttle

On-Island Shuttle Between Ferry and Wedding Venue

July 30, 2022 2:20 pm - 10:30 pm

There are no Ubers on Vashon, so if you walk onto the boat, make plans to be picked up or time your walk-on with the shuttle pickup provided to the wedding/ferry. Seattle Ferry Shuttle Information: Plan to walk on the 2:20 pm ferry departing Fauntleroy/West Seattle to Vashon Island. Pickup is at 2:45 from the Vashon Island ferry dock. This shuttle will make one stop at The Lodges on Vashon prior to arriving at the wedding venue. It will arrive at the wedding venue by 3:20 pm. Return: Shuttle will depart wedding venue at 10:15 pm. There will again be one stop at The Lodges on Vashon before continuing on to the ferry terminal. It will arrive to the ferry dock by 10:50 pm for the 11 pm boat to Fauntleroy/West Seattle (please note, this boat is via Southworth so crossing time is 45 minutes). There will be no shuttle between the Tacoma Ferry and Vashon. If you are coming from Tacoma, please arrange your own transportation to and from the wedding venue.
