4,000 miles, 5 years, and an unmentionable amount of cross country flights ago:
In January of 2018, Kate and Dylan were both living in Albany, New York. Kate was working as a nurse at a local hospital after spending the summer biking across the country and Dylan was in school at Albany Medical College. They first met in the beloved but small 3Fish Cafe, surrounded by no less than 4 of Dylan's friends (now wedding guests!). He was studying for the obstetrics shelf exam, she was studying for the GRE. He was pretty sure she was in high school, she was pretty sure he was in med school. No one approached each other! They almost didn't meet! But because of some clever millennial life hacking (read: "Bumble") they did and now there's a wedding!
After graduating from Albany Medical College in 2019, Dylan began residency in Loma Linda, California. At the same time, Kate began graduate school at Georgetown University in D.C. and they began a 3 year period that included a lot of FaceTime and 9 hour travel days. As it turns out, airplanes are actually not that hard to study on and now Kate has some very strong opinions on the best regional Southwest hub (Denver, clearly). Escaping to southern California every month was not the worst of circumstances for Kate! And Dylan swears he was thrilled every time he got to spend one of his vacation weeks in downtown Baltimore.
Kate graduated from Georgetown in May of 2022 and finally moved to southern California. She is adapting to SoCal living by learning to run in 100 degree heat and helping everyone understand that New Yorkers are direct, not rude. Dylan and Kate spent the summer trail running, spending time with friends, and overall enjoying living together. In December of 2022, they checked off the next millennial life milestone and adopted the sweetest puppy: Delta.
Kate and Dylan invite their loved ones to join them at Pema Osel Ling, a Tibetan Buddhist retreat center in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Their ceremony will take place in a small redwood grove with reception to follow nearby.
