The wedding will be at Shaker Village, which boasts historic tours and exhibits, a restaurant, and a farm with beautiful veggies and adorable animals. There are also 3,000 acres of hiking trails, though if you have the time, we recommend hiking in Red River Gorge.
Red River Gorge has amazing trails and some of the country's best climbing. If you want to see where we got engaged, we recommend the Auxier Ridge Trail and Double Arch. Stop by Miguel's after your excursion for pizza and an Ale 8! If you are overwhelmed by the whole Gorge - Natural Bridge State Resort Park can be a good place to start.
Our wedding happens to be on the first Saturday in May, known throughout Kentucky as Derby Day. Although the Derby is often called "the most exciting 2 minutes in sports", there are races at Churchill Downs all week.
95% of the world's bourbon is produced right here in Kentucky, and nearly all of the distilleries have tours and tastings. Maker's Mark, Four Roses, Wild Turkey, and Woodford Reserve are all a short drive from the wedding venue.
A delicious alternative to the bourbon trail is the Kentucky doughnut trail. We are most familiar with the Lexington locations, Spalding's and North Lime Coffee & Donuts. If you want to start a fight at our wedding, ask a group of locals which one is better!
At the Kentucky Horse Park, you can watch live shows, saddle up for a trail ride, or visit the International Museum of the Horse. Visit the Hall of Champions and meet the elite group of retired racehorses who call it their home.
