Waterfront Park and the French Quarter District
Waterfront Park is a 8-acre park along approximately one-half mile of the Cooper River in the heart of downtown Charleston, called the French Quarter District. Waterfront park has Charleston harbor water views plus a large lawn, walkways & 2 fountains. The busy French Quarter, in Charleston’s original walled city, is home to the 19th-century Charleston City Market, selling clothing, crafts, and artwork, with the Confederate Museum in the old Market Hall. African-American history is recounted at the Old Slave Mart Museum on the site of slave auctions.
Patriots Point
Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum is located at the mouth of the Cooper River on the Charleston Harbor. You can explore a retired Naval aircraft carrier, destroyer & submarine docked here year-round.
Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens
Get lost in the magic of the Lowcountry. Boone Hall Plantation is one of America's oldest working plantations (established 1681), continually growing crops for over 320 years. Stroll beneath the famous moss-draped Avenue of Live Oaks, explore Southern heritage in slave cabins and guided tours, and travel through years of history at the former cotton plantation & scenic farmland. Marion Square to King Street Shopping & Dining
We would recommend starting at Marion Square then making your way down King Street for shopping or dining. Stroll in and out of the plentiful boutiques and stores and local cafes.
Shem Creek
Boardwalks, trails & fishing boats highlight this tranquil town park with creek & wetlands views. You can explore by foot or kayak. There are also many choices for dining (Tavern and Table is a favorite of the couple).
Charleston Fun Park (in Mt. Pleasant)
This was the first fun park the couple went to together. Indoor/Outdoor center with Go-Karts, 2 miniature golf courses, an amazing arcade, jump land, paintball, gemstone or fossil mining and a climbing wall make this the perfect location for any family occasion.
Sullivan's Island
1. Walk the sandy beaches and find sharks teeth and seashells. 2. Tour Fort Moultrie: a series of fortifications on Sullivan's Island built in 1776 to protect Charleston. The first fort, formerly named Fort Sullivan, built of palmetto logs, inspired the flag and nickname of South Carolina, as "The Palmetto State". 3. Dining options: some of the couple's favorite spots on Sully's are: Poe's Tavern, Mex 1 Coastal Cantina, and the Obstinate Daughter.
