Katelyn and Katherine’s story began with a little spontaneity, a lot of talking, and one very brave beer purchase. In late January 2024, both made separate drives to Birmingham for a mutual friend’s birthday party - Katelyn with a quick trip across town, and Katherine with a bold 3.5-hour drive from Mobile (despite having plenty of schoolwork waiting at home). That night, they met at Tucana Tiki Bar, where names were exchanged, hands were shaken, and… that was about it. For the next couple of hours, they barely spoke - though Katelyn kept stealing glances, trying to figure out who Katherine reminded her of, and Katherine definitely noticed. When the group moved on to The Fennec, everything changed. Summoning all her courage, Katelyn decided to buy Katherine a beer - a Corona Light with lime. It took a few encouraging pushes from friends (and some very shaky hands), but eventually the beer made its way over. Katherine was thrilled, and from that moment on, the conversation never stopped. Katherine talked (loudly, as she does), Katelyn listened (patiently, as she does), and somehow a single beer sparked a connection neither of them expected. They stayed out talking until nearly 5 a.m., sharing stories, laughs, and an easy sense of comfort that felt rare and exciting. When the night ended, they hugged goodbye - both assuming that might be the last time they ever saw each other. Katherine had mentioned she wasn’t great at texting back, and Katelyn figured the moment might just live on as a really great memory. But the next day, Katelyn decided to take a chance and reached out - and Katherine responded. Over the next few days, the texting picked up, with Katherine keeping things funny and unpredictable, and Katelyn trying her best not to overthink every message (and failing). When Katelyn asked what Katherine’s preferred way of communicating was, Katherine said FaceTime. Naturally - and because Katelyn is exactly who she is - Katelyn immediately scheduled it, complete with a set time and plan, much to Katherine’s amusement. That first FaceTime changed everything. What started as one call turned into hours-long conversations, late nights that stretched into early mornings, and a growing realization that something special was happening. Through those FaceTimes, they truly got to know one another - the talking, the listening, the laughter, and eventually, the falling in love. And the rest… is history.
