Houston and Kat met in 2012 when they were both invited by Nick and Elise Castorina to Nick's parents' house in the Tri-Cities for a weekend of fun with friends. Nick and Houston were childhood friends, and Kat met Nick and Elise in college at UW.
Houston and Kat both say that there was a 'spark' the first time they met. They remember goofing off and teasing each other and at the same time having meaningful conversations as they hiked down Badger Mountain, which was part of the annual Trip to the Tri tradition.
Over the years, they would see each other a couple times a year for events, always connecting like old friends.
Over 8 years later, Houston asked Kat out in late 2020, during the pandemic. They had their first date at a table outdoors (since indoor dining wasn't allowed) on a chilly December evening. They dated long-distance for a year before Houston moved out west. He proposed on their hotel balcony in Granada, Spain on Dec. 4, 2022 -- their two year anniversary.
