Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Anna Fitzloff and Kassie Stovell
We are so excited to have you visit Rhode Island, a place we love and hope you will get to explore. On a nice day, Kassie will opt for a motor bike ride down the East Bay of the Sakonnet River through Warren, Bristol, down to Tiverton or Little Compton. This is an absolutely gorgeous drive over bridges and through old towns and farmland hugging the coast line. There are plenty of places to stop for either fine dining or fish shack vibes and you can even get in the ocean at Fogland Beach. You can also make a day trip to Newport and visit oceanside estates from the Gilded Age. Continue to Jamestown and over to Matunuck for some beautiful salt water marshes and sandy dunes. If you have less than 24 hours, you can enjoy Providence which is a small walkable city with great neighborhoods and food. Otherwise, head to East Greenwich and stroll up the main street, pop into some fabulous eateries or walk the docks and admire the boats. Some of our favorite spots are listed below.

In East Greenwich: Greenwich Bay Oyster Bar

240 Main Street, East Greenwich, RI 02818
, (401) 398-2462

This is one of our favorite places to sidle up to the bar for buck ‘o shuck. Get there early for a seat and keep it. It gets very busy fast.

In East Greenwich: McKinley's Pub

1 Division Street, East Greenwich, RI 02818
, (401) 886-1111

This is a great bay side pub at the Greenwich Bay Yacht club where we keep an old swing keel out on a mooring. There isn’t much of a view but the locals pack the place for a cold brew after a salty day in the bay and the fish and chips are fantastic.

In Narragansett: Champlin's Seafood

256 Great Island Road, Narragansett, RI 02882

This wonderful seaside restaurant has awesome views of the fishing harbors and southern Rhode Island shores. You can’t get fresher!

In Matunuck: Matunuck Oyster Bar

629 Succotash Road, South Kingstown, RI 02879
, (401) 783-4202

Our first COVID excursion was to this spot where we could sit out on the picnic tables overlooking the salt marshes.

In Newport: Newport Mansions

Newport, RI

Visit the Preservation Society of Newport County to learn about the historic mansions, many of which are open for tours, and find out about other programs focused on the city's history.

In Tiverton: Groundswell Cafe + Bakery

3883 Main Road, Tiverton, RI 02878

Fabulous French cafe in Tiverton to grab a cup of coffee and lovely lunch during your drive.

In Tiverton: Evelyn's Drive-In

2335 Main Road, Tiverton, RI 02878

This is a great bayside lobster shack! Note for the mid-westerners: you do not actually drive through. You park, walk up, and order - then sit out back on the picnic tables and docks looking at the boat traffic while you eat!

In New Bedford: New Bedford Whaling Museum

18 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford, MA 02740

Wait, did you say Moby Dick? One of those particularly New England places to visit, the New Bedford Whaling Museum is a great afternoon spot for visitors young and old in your group. And for those paying attention, this isn't in Rhode Island but its down in that slip of southern Massachusetts coast line and only about an hour or so drive from Providence.

In Providence: RISD Museum

20 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02903
, (401) 454-6500

Providence is home to Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, both situated in the Fox Point neighborhood. We used to walk these streets frequently admiring the beautiful old architecture and taking in the city views from the hill. The RISD museum is a good size for an afternoon outing including the walk and other site visits. From here, you could also head down to the pedestrian bridge and river walk that separates the city’s neighborhoods.

In Providence: Dune Brothers Seafood

239 Dyer Street, Providence, RI 02903
, (401) 480-1269

The best lobster roll!!! Easy outdoor food truck vibe. Have a bite and then walk to the pedestrian bridge for a beautiful skyline view of the city to the north and the bridges and house boats to the south.

In Providence: Dolores

100 Hope Street, Providence, RI 02906

A great Mexican restaurant and tequila bar in Fox Point near Brown University and Kassie's old apartment.

In Providence: The Avery

18 Luongo Square, Providence, RI 02903

This fabulous cocktail bar is where we celebrated our first Valentine's together.

In Providence: The Eddy

95 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903

Super cocktail and food spot within walking distance of The Graduate.

For all the days along the way
