Garett came up to Belt for the weekend. Friday, he surprised me when he picked me up from work. On the way out to the house, he proposed the idea that we should watch a sunrise together since we have never done so. He heard (from me every morning that summer) that the sunrises in my neck of the woods were gorgeous. Thinking that it was no different than my usual weekday routine, I agreed to the sunrise date. Sleeping out on the couch, I woke up to Garett poking me at 5:18 in the morning. “Kass, get up!” He said excitedly as he was already dressed and ready to go. About five minutes later we were crawling into the side-by-side to make the short trip up to the hayfield. We got up to “the point” which overlooks Belt Creek, the Little Belt Mountain Range, and the Highwood Mountains. This is my favorite spot and Garett knew that. “Let’s walk over there,” he said pointing to the southbound corner of the field. Over there you had a clear shot of the sun rising over the Highwoods with a sea of wheat surrounding it. Once we got over there, Garett and I “ooohed” and “awww-ed” at the marvelous sight even with a rain cloud covering up most of the sunrise. Then stepping behind me, Garett got on one knee. “Kass, will you marry me?” he said with a big grin on his face. As you all know I said yes…which brings us here. I hope you all are able to celebrate this big day with us!
Garett and I attended Sheridan College in Wyoming. Although being the same age, we did not meet until our sophomore year. My sophomore year I was an RA. I played basketball for SCC and I really wanted to blend the student-athletes in with the rest of the student body. By being an RA I had the position to be a bridge between the athletic teams and the student body. Meeting as many students was my number one priority, and thank goodness I took that job. Garett and I have a mutual friend named Alden. Alden was an RA in my residence hall with me. Now if you ask Garett, he’d say he first met me that first night of school when I was on duty. He was with Alden when Alden came to check in on me. Sure, we met but it was no more than a "hello". If you ask me, the first time we really met was that next night. Alden, the two other RA’s of our hall, and I had a welcome to SCC campfire. This is where I honestly met Garett. We talked all night and made some s’mores. From there a friendship, then a relationship grew. So, I count my lucky stars because I went to Sheridan where I met my best friend and my forever, Garett.
