The dress code for the reception is Formal: Tuxes and gowns are welcome, and so are suits and cocktail dresses. We know you will all show up looking your best and fabulous!
We would be deeply honored if you choose to make a donation to one of the charities close to our hearts: Episcopal Relief & Development, Episcopal Migration Ministries, Season of Justice, or your local ASPCA. Alternatively, check out the Registry tab of the website if you would like to celebrate with a gift.
We will be getting married at our church home, St. James' Episcopal Church, for a service of Holy Eucharist and the Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage—with a full choir to sing our favorite sacred choral music. The service involves standing, sitting, kneeling, singing, spoken responses and other participatory elements from you, our most beloved friends and family as you promise to support us in our marriage. Please do not worry about “doing it right," we're just excited to share such an important part of our lives with you. People of any—or no—faith are warmly welcome to participate throughout the service, and all Christians, from any part of God’s household, regardless of denomination or age, are welcome and invited to receive Communion. During this time you can come up to receive just the bread, just the wine, both, a blessing, or to abstain by staying in your pew. If you'd like to learn more about Communion in the Episcopal Church, check out this video: https://youtu.be/USOMZpGheBc We ask everyone to please silence and stay off your cell phones throughout the service, including taking pictures.
The wedding will begin at St. James' at 3:30 PM. Please plan on arriving at least 15 minutes early to get seated and enjoy an organ prelude. If you're taking a cab from the hotel, plan for at least 45 minutes. The reception will begin at Bottino with cocktail hour at 6:00 PM.
We recommend using a city cab if you are not familiar with the subway. To get to the ceremony at St. James' Church, you can tell your cab driver "71st and Madison." To get to the reception at Bottino, tell your driver "24th and 10th." Cabs take either cash or card and can be hailed by sticking your hand out when you see one with their light on. If you prefer to use a ride share, Uber and Lyft are available throughout the city.
There will be a small gap between the church service at St. James' and the reception at Bottino which starts at 6pm. We recommend stopping by your hotel to freshen up, or visit the bar at the High Line Hotel. Feel free to arrive at Bottino early if you prefer, they have confirmed that they will be open to guests at 5:30.
While we love all the little ones in our lives, we kindly request a child-free reception of anyone under the age of 18.
We are having a small, intimate gathering of our nearest and dearest. Due to limited space at the reception, invitations are intended only for the guests who are named on the envelope. Don’t worry, we will be sure to seat you with people you know and love!
Bottino will be serving an amazing modern Tuscan Italian meal including appetizers, a main course, and dessert. We will have both meat and vegetarian options. If you have any additional dietary restrictions, please let us know so we can accommodate you.
Of course! There will be an open bar throughout the formal reception at the Bottino.
The reception at Bottino will end at 11:00 PM. We will have an un-hosted after party at Westside Tavern (23rd and 9th Ave.) for those who want to keep the party going.
Yes! While we don't have any hotel blocks, we have a few recommendations that are close to the reception in Chelsea. Check out the Travel page for more details.
While there are a few parking garages and street parking, we do not recommend driving during your visit if you are not familiar with driving in New York City. Check out the Travel page for tips on ride shares and yellow cabs.
Explore! Our reception is close the High Line, an elevated park built on an old train line, which you can stroll along through Chelsea and into the Meatpacking District. The best way to experience the city is by wandering around different neighborhoods and taking it all in. We also recommend a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art or getting tickets to a Broadway Show (Karmen can give you recommendations). We're excited to share our home city with you!
