Kara got her first job out of law school as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Caroline County, VA. Karl was already working in Caroline as a Deputy Sheriff where he is the Sergeant of Investigations. Kara was assigned one of Karl’s cases a week after being hired. She called Karl about the case and this was the first time they ever talked. Karl thought the case was not winnable. Kara thought differently and was even more challenged after being told she couldn’t win it. The trial for this case was the first time Karl and Kara met in person. After butchering the pronunciation of “Eichenmiller” when calling him to the stand, Kara ultimately won the trial. The following months, Karl and Kara worked closely on multiple cases together. All the while, developing feelings for each other that neither conveyed to one another. Karl and Kara finally met outside of work for drinks to celebrate a plea deal on a big case. They went to PBR in Mechanicsville, both under the guise of playing it cool but secretly developing stronger feelings for each other. The other friend there helped them both keep the flirting to a minimum. One fate-filled night, Kara went to the Scotty McCreery concert while Karl was working an overtime assignment at the concert. Kara casually asked him to give her a ride home after. This was the first time Karl and Kara were alone together, not for a work reason. That night together after the concert, it was like they had been long lost souls that finally found each other. From that night on, they didn’t look back. Their relationship grew at an exceptional rate as well as their love for one another. On December 23, 2021 Karl asked Kara to marry him under the Christmas lights at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. They went to PBR after to celebrate and to bring it full circle from the first time they spent together outside of work. Karl and Kara cannot wait to spend their wedding day surrounded by family and friends they love.
