A swipe, A Blizzard, And A Red Velvet Fate

Karley wasn’t expecting much the day she opened Tinder at work. It had been a long week, and she was half-heartedly swiping, not really thinking anything meaningful would come from it. A few miles away, David was sitting in the Dairy Queen drive-thru, grabbing dinner after a long day on the job. It was the day before his birthday—of all days—and as fate would have it, he matched with Karley. She had no idea it was almost his birthday until he mentioned it, and something about that stuck with her. There he was, getting a Blizzard before heading home to pack for a beach trip to Panama City Beach the next morning. They started talking—casually at first—but their conversation flowed so naturally, like two people who had known each other for years instead of minutes. After he arrived in PCB, Karley realized something: that beach town just so happened to be home to the only place that served her all-time favorite ice cream—Marble Slab Creamery’s red velvet cake. She hadn’t had it since 2021, and jokingly (but also a little seriously) asked David if he could bring some back with him. It was probably one of the most random requests he’d ever gotten from a girl he hadn’t even met yet. But David didn’t hesitate. He went to Marble Slab—dragging along his sister, who was spending the trip trying to figure out who this “Karley girl” was—and bought not one, not two, but three containers of red velvet cake ice cream. He packed them up in a cooler, kept them perfectly frozen, and drove all 12 hours back to West Virginia… with a truck full of ice cream and a heart full of anticipation. That ice cream delivery was the very first time they met in person. It wasn’t just a date, or a casual meetup—it was the start of something genuine and unexpected. He brought the ice cream. She brought the smile. And together, they began a love story that started with a swipe, a birthday Blizzard, and three pints of red velvet cake ice cream. Sometimes, love doesn’t wait for a grand gesture. Sometimes, it starts in a drive-thru and turns into forever.
