How We Met

Karl and Monica matched on a dating app shortly before Passover. When he messaged her, "What does Passover mean to you," Monica's interest was piqued. The question seemed oddly thoughtful for someone on a dating app. She responded and they kept chatting. After Passover was finished, they met for small plates and wine at Balzac (RIP) on Milwaukee Day (4/14). The time was so lovely, they then walked around Milwaukee's East Side and sat near the Water Tower and chatted, went to Von Trier, and enjoyed some frozen yogurt. Two days later, they met up for their second date at Likewise coffee shop in Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward, and made dinner together in Monica's apartment. After Karl got a job in the Chicago area, Monica asked for a transfer to her job's Chicago office, and they moved in together. After bringing their two cats together, obtaining one gecko, and making numerous inside jokes, the two settled into a nice life together. Nights are spent laughing, watching movies, playing video games and records, cuddling cats, and trying Chicago and Oak Park's many wonderful restaurants. One day, Monica told Karl she never wanted a big white wedding, and had always pictured herself getting married in downtown Chicago at City Hall. Karl responded with, "When?" Caught off-guard initially, happy tears were exchanged, and then Monica officially asked Karl to marry her.
