We met our senior year of college at University of Redlands. Nathan was taking a Spanish class to complete his requirements for his minor. Karime needed an international course for her major. The only class left was a Spanish class focused on history of Spain. The very first day of class, our professor started a conversation in Spanish to listen to our Spanish skills. Nathan was confident in his skills but momentarily forgot how to say "accounting" in Spanish. Seeing how this complete stranger was struggling, Karime decided to help him translate. Nathan thanked Karime for helping him not embarrass himself in class. On the second day of class, Karime arrived early and took a seat, Nathan arrived to class shortly after and saw Karime sitting by herself. In that moment, he decided to make his first move and asked her if the seat next to her was taken. With a smile on her face, Karime nodded no, Nathan introduced himself to her and the rest is history.

Nos conocimos el último año en la Universidad de Redlands. Nathan tenía que tomar una clase de español para completar su curriculum. Karime necesitaba tomar una clase con temática internacional. La única clase que quedaba era una clase en español sobre historia de España. El primer día de clases, la maestra comenzó una plática con los alumnos acerca de sus otras clases, esto como un ejercicio para ver el nivel de español que teníamos. Nathan estaba muy seguro de su habilidad al hablar español pero cuando tuvo que traducir la palabra "accounting" en español (contabilidad) no supo cómo decirlo. Karime se dio cuneta que el chavo quien era un desconocido para ella, no sabia traducir la palabra, se apiado de él y lo ayudó. Nathan le agradeció por ayudarlo a no avergonzarse. Al día siguiente, Karime llegó temprano y cuando Nate llegó le preguntó a Karime si alguien estaba sentado a lado de ella. Karime sonrió y le dijo que no, ella sabía lo que él tramaba. Nathan se presentó oficialmente y el resto es historia.

After 4 years of dating, Nathan popped the question! With the help of Karime and Nathan's family, Nate was able to plan the proposal without her ever suspecting. Karime and her family had planned to spend the holidays in Mexico City along with her loved ones that live there. Nate told Karime that he would spend Christmas with his family in California, this is where the lying began. Nate knows that Karime's favorite holiday is Christmas and she loves spending it in Mexico with her family, so obviously, he thought the best day, time and place to propose would be on Christmas Eve in Mexico with all her family. Nathan took a red-eye flight to Mexico City, where Karime's sister and cousin would be waiting for him at the airport. They took him to Karime's cousin's house where he was able to eat, rest, shower, and get ready for the big surprise! Karime had no idea what was waiting for her. Karime and her family were getting ready for the traditional Christmas Eve dinner, presents and games. Karime's family had a piñata filled up with candies and ready to have fun. It was Karime's turn, she was blindfolded, spun around and made fun of while attempting to hit it. When her cousin removed the blindfold, Nathan was standing right in front of her. Karime was so confused and very shocked to see him there, but ran to hug him immediately. Nate gave Karime a scrapbook that was full of pictures of them together. As she was looking through the many years of happy memories, she started to shed some tears. Nate wrote a little love letter on the scrapbook and asked her to read it out loud. As she attempted to read, she got very emotional and started crying, but Nate was able to finish reading it. She flipped the page and noticed an empty page titled "PROPOSAL", that's really when Karime realized Nate was going to propose. She turned to look at him and he was down on one knee asking her to marry him. To say that Karime, Nate and everyone else were very emotional is an understatement.

Después de 4 años de noviazgo, Nathan le pidió matrimonio! Con la ayuda de la familia de ambos, Nathan pudo planear la propuesta sin que ella sospechara nada. Karime y su familia habían planeado pasar las fiestas decembrinas en México. Nathan le dijo a Karime que el pasaría las fiestas en California con su familia, ahí es cuando comenzaron las mentiras. Nathan sabe que Navidad es la fecha favorita de Karime y que le encanta estar en México en esas fechas para poder pasar tiempo con amigos y familiares, así que el supo que el mejor día, lugar y hora para proponerle matrimonio, sería en Noche Buena, en México, con su familia. Nathan tomó un vuelo de madrugada hacía la Ciudad de México, donde la hermana de Karime y su prima lo estarían esperando en el aeropuerto. Lo llevaron a la casa del primo de Karime donde pudo descansar, comer, bañarse y preparase para la gran sorpresa! Karime no tenía ni idea de lo que le esperaba. Antes de la cena de Navidad, Karime y su familia decidieron partir las piñatas y divertirse un poco. Era el turno de Karime, le taparon los ojos, le dieron vueltas y todos se reían mientras ella trataba de pegarle a la piñata. Cuando le destaparon los ojos, ella vio a Nathan parado justo en frente de ella. Estaba muy confundida por que él debiera estar en California, pero aun así corrió a abrazarlo inmediatamente. Nate le dio un álbum de fotos que contenía sus mejores recuerdos y aventuras. En el álbum, había una carta de amor escrita por Nate, él le pidió que la leyera en voz alta, pero Karime no pudo, se le partió la voz y se le salían las lagrimas. Nate continuó leyendo, le dieron la vuelta a la página titulada "La Propuesto" y vacía, lista para pegarle una foto. Justo ahí es cuando ella se dio cuenta de lo que estaba sucediendo, él le iba a proponer matrimonio! Ella volteo a verlo y él ya estaba arrodillado, con un anillo en mano y pidiéndole que se casara con él. Karime, Nathan y toda la familia estaban muy emocionados!
